We were honored to be on Houston Fox 26 this morning with Mike Iscovitz, Jake Hamilton, and Melissa Wilson. It was a further pleasure to meet Ford Atkinson, Chris Stipes, and Michelle Merhar.
The segment focused on the new Fast & Furious 6 movie and how people in real life take modifying their vehicles to another level. We brought four cars to display, two Challengers and two Chargers. Appreciate SCLXers, Jim (jmsride), Doc (DarthCharger), John (johnnybee), and Mike (KingChallenger), for taking time this morning to drive to the station. Johnny Bee was interviewed on camera and was able to share what SCLX is about... Owners, Enthusiasts, Friends, and Family.
One of the best comments we heard from the hosts, "What you are talking about is not what most people think about a car club". We couldn't have said it any better.
That's right, this month we are celebrating our sixth year as a group of owners, enthusiasts, friends and FAMILY.
It's hard to believe that just six years ago a handful of people were interacting on one of the national forums and began gathering face to face and wanted to take our ownership experience to another level. At the time we were attending another organization's regular meet and greet and asked to no longer attend. Seems that our modern MOPARs were drawing crowds away from their event. So Mark, Rob, and I sat down and began to foster a vision and mission for this great organization and family that you now know as SCLX.
Over time we've had owners come and go. Growth for SCLX has never been a problem as current members are always excited to share what SCLX is about. We've read countless emails and posts from members about how different SCLX is from anything they have participated in before. This is by purposeful design as it is because of the DNA of our organization:
Members Helping Members
The Vehicles Bring Us Together… Our Members Set Us Apart
This puts us in a unique category. In the last six years we have had cash offers to become part of different communities. We have also been approached by companies who want to be exclusive sponsors. The offers are flattering and show that SCLX is recognized by outsiders as a great organization. However, those offers distract us from what our core DNA is. To this end we are humbled when other clubs contact us about how we do things and we gladly take time to share our ideas with them so they can grow their enthusiast communities.
We appreciate everyone that calls SCLX home. We are honored that you let us in your lives, provide donations to further our mission, and vote your support with a precious commodity that you cannot get back, your TIME. So we take our organization design, event format, and event experience very seriously so when you leave a club event you can't wait for the next one. We are proud to be able to provide a unique atmosphere that many have never experienced before, be it another organization or a previous car club.
I must mention the tremendous efforts from volunteers, club staff, and the Leadership Team that help us keep moving forward (please insert LOUD applause, Rob, do we have an app for that). Seriously, we have such strong momentum that comes from the passion, energy, and excitement each of you have for your vehicles and being a part of the SCLX Family.
Be sure to make plans to attend this special Central Meet and Greet Friday, May 17th. If it is your first time, there is no better event to attend! We purposely design it pull in all new members and those that have never attended this event before. We want you to experience what SCLX is all about. Please stop at Mission Control and meet Rob, Jerry and myself as well as other Club Staff and Volunteers. We want to meet you and your family.
All the Best!
Regards,
John "Johnny Bee" Chiboroski President / Mission Commander
P.S. We are very fortunate to be able to meet at the Target location since June 2009. We ask that you observe our Event Conduct Guidelines in order to maintain our reputation with all the businesses in this location.
This month we celebrate our sixth birthday. It is amazing what this owners community has become. There was no blueprint to build SCLX. There was no manual. We've taken many steps forward, a few backwards, and always kept our focus on creating a great place where owners can connect.
With each success we never stopped striving to be better. Members take time out of their busy schedules to spend at a club event, we want them to drive away glad they did. They meet someone though the club and over time form meaningful relationships. This club has become a special place for so many people.
To commemorate our sixth birthday we created a new SCLX logo that we'll use in conjunction with our normal Space City LX Modern Mopar "M" logo. This new logo is called Momentum. It represents how SCLX is always moving forward.
While we continue to evolve as an organization we stay true to why this club was founded. We hear so many stories from members, all with one common theme. Their lives have been enriched by this "car club". While the cars bring us together.. our members make SCLX a family.
This is a week many members look forward to... the Central Meet & Greet where members from all over the area gather. Whether it's your first event, or you're a long-time member, we encourage you to be part of something special. If you haven't been to an event in a while, come out also. You'll be surprised at what you see and feel. For you with families... pack them up and head on down.
We received some comments this week from our followers on Instagram and Twitter about how they wish they had events like ours to attend. Think about that... we've got it great here, you've got fellow members so close to you and quick to want to throw out a text and bam... you've got a little get-together going. In other parts of the country for owners that's not possible. They meetup once a quarter, or even just once a year. We are humbled that SCLX has come so far in six years to be an organization that connects owners and fosters friendships.
This Friday, we have a very special guest in from Florida. Heidi, owner of Billet Technology will be with us for the weekend. If you have some Billet Technology product in your car be sure to meet the person who's dedication and vision made that product possible.
Lastly, we want to thank everyone who responded to our email last week regarding the club budget. More Club Supporters have come on board, as well as some good feedback from members. We take this feedback, positive and constructive, into consideration when we make strategic decisions about SCLX. This organization is about the owner and enabling them to grow in their ownership experience. SCLX is not for every owner, but every owner should get the chance to figure that out for themselves.
As you can see from the chart above we have a very real picture of current SCLX ability to meet its annual budget.
Membership totals have exponentially outpaced member support. In fact, through end of March, less than 25 people of the 1999 members have provided funds toward the 2013 annual budget.
We are thankful for our all our Club Supporters, past and present. We now challenge you, who are active members yet have NEVER made a donation.... it's your turn. Click here to donate.
Well, I sit here amazed this week as I watched the 2000th SCLX member registration come across my inbox. Your organization has just welcomed in it's 2000th registered member since we started in May 2007.
Yes, I said 2000. Wow!
We see owners come and go. In fact we are still trying to understand how some never make it out to a single event? Then there are some that attend once, and never come back. Gotta be my bad DJ skills or poor video interviewing? Some become active and have to move to another vehicle and then they also move on.
But wait --- That's not all!
Then there is everyone else still reading this note! You are the people that make SCLX the family that it is today. You take time to come to events, participate actively on the forum, have get togethers, engage the newbies, take time to share knowledge, provide info and even physically lend a helping hand to another member. And for that, we are grateful - because SCLX is about members and for our members.
We cannot just have words that say "The cars bring us together, OUR members set us apart". We have each of you actively walking out that DNA component of what SCLX is.
Thank you for continuing to support and cultivate the SCLX family.
When the Harlem Shake rage hit a few members got the idea to organize and record a SCLX version at the next Central Meet and Greet. Here's the result...
One thing is for certain, SCLXers can have fun. We had a family attend their first SCLX event and jumped right into the video. Welcome to the Modern Mopar Madness!
The SRT Engineers are coming back to LXForums! This next Tuesday, Engineers from Chrysler's SRT Team will come to the LXForums to answer questions from you regarding SRT vehicles LIVE!
The discussion will run from 5pm to 7pm (Eastern time). A thread has already been created. Note: This is one hour earlier then our previous Roundtables!
Please remember to read the guidelines we have posted and enjoy speaking with the people who bring you the premiere LX vehicles we all love!
With the purchase of a new SRT vehicle comes a very special perk... the SRT Track Experience. Two months from today, the SRT team will be in town. We have some members planning to attend the SRT TE that will be at Motorsports Ranch in April. If you are an SRT owner this is an experience you don't want to pass up.
As you may know, Bill Denton, our long-time member and Service Director at Allen Samuels in Katy was promoted to President and General Manager of a new location in Aransas Pass. We sure do miss seeing Bill at "the clubhouse" and at our events... but as you all know, once SCLX always SCLX. A few of us were curious as to how the transition has been so we reached out to get an update. Thank you Bill for taking time to post and let us know how well you are doing.
